Drawing the Youth & Beauty Brigade

It's a true pleasure to see a long-time friend step into her destiny with joy and ease, and a great example of this is my friend Christine, whose radio show The Youth & Beauty Brigade I had the distinct pleasure of sitting in on this drizzly afternoon in San Francisco.

According to Facebook, Christine and I are officially engaged.

She and I met in 2000 at the El Cerrito High School Little Theatre, where she embraced her role as student stage manager with its oversized headphones and masterful navigation of the switchboard. She also made (and continues to make) better mix cds than anyone I have ever met. One decade of friendship later, I get to see Christine bring her technical skills and her passion for music to her kick-ass program at Mutiny Radio in the Mission District of San Francisco, under the enigmatic alias St. Kilda. Join me listening to her choice of the freshest indie tunes every Saturday from 2-4 pm at http://mutinyradio.org/

Sketchbook from Peru

During my trip to South America I lived four weeks in Peru, between the city of Cusco and a yoga retreat center in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. I assigned myself the task to draw at least once every day; these are just a few of the things I saw.

I pulled these carrots out of the earth, and put them in our salad!
