We met at 8:30am on a Saturday morning to organize paperwork and set-up backdrops for the Berkeley Elders' photo shoot, at the Fellowship for Unitarian Universalists. Not as random as it sounds: I've been working with the young women pictured below to create an oral history of the Fellowship through one-on-one interviews with 30 community elders, sort of recording their life stories and the parts they play in the history of the Fellowship building and the UU community here in Berkeley. It's a rich, rich history of political activism, civil rights work, peace work, social justice meetings and coalitions, film series and book releases, all in the name of what is right in the world.
Long story short, here we are at the Fellowship in the early morning, prepping for the photo shoot.
Our "wisdom tree" features quotes from the elders we interviewed:
Are you recording audio of the interviews? or is it all written?
ReplyDeleteJustine: We transcribed 30 recorded interviews, all of which are now accessible via the UC Berkeley library!
